The Banana Splits Adventure Hour (1968)

BTW, while you're enjoying this Hanna-Barbera rock band, I totally forgot to link to the Cattanooga Cats LP(!!!) when those rocking kitties appeared on this site the other day. Please go here to look and listen to this amazing rarity.

It's noteworthy that at a time when rock musicians were getting increasingly hairy and unkempt and animal-like (and even wusses like the New Colony Six and the Gentrys were sporting facial hair), the most efficient way of expressing "that" in kiddie cartoons turned out to be through "animal acts" like the Banana Splits, Cattanooga, even Disney's Aristocats. Meanwhile, because of a certain wholesome-entertainment golden rule, cartoon "human acts" persisted in being anachronistically clean cut and clean shaven. (The Groovie Goolies' Wolfie doesn't count, natch.)

An exception would be the hairy and groovy looking musicians that anonymously rocked out, usually for only thirty seconds or so, on the Bakshi incarnation of Spider-man. They usually played at a coffee house where Peter Parker was trying to study.
