When the character of Charlie Tuna was first conceived he was supposed to represent a hipster. The glasses, the beret, the street talk were meant to equate a beatnik fish. I never would've known had I not read it, because Charlie seemed less hip and more like a fast talking car salesman. The Leo Burnett agency put together the long lasting run of StarKist animated commercials. A perennial advertising classic.
