Filmation: Misc. DC Comics' Superheroes (1966-68) - Footage Offline 2/16/08

In celebration of Warner Home Video's release of both Filmation's Superman and Batman DVDs, we present today some Filmation DC Superhero stuff not yet available. I am so glad this stuff is being released. It curbs much of the anger I had when I discovered that all the mom and pop video stores were selling off their copies of the four mid-eighties VHS releases of this stuff.

Working Dollars (1957)

John Sutherland Productions were responsible for many of the memorable pieces of promotional animation through out the 1950s. The animation company put together this piece of free enterprise propaganda. This piece of work is another fine example of the Cartoon Modern style of animation. I use that phrase in the hopes it will become the official description for this style of art. As Amid Amidi pointed out in the introduction to his ground breaking book on this important artistic movement, it has been for many years been known only in the vaguest of terms like "fifties style" or "UPA style." Thanks to Amid, we now have a proper phrase. The Cartoon Modern movement. His book also features a significant chapter on JSP.

Capitalism does seem great when it's animated like this! Unfortunately, the rest of the time it seems down right tragic.
