When I was a kid, my mother told me that there had been a contest to name the Flintstones' baby-to-be, but I've never seen this mentioned elsewhere. Is this true?
Indeed it is true. The night the winner was announced, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera appeared on what seemed like live television to uncomfortably read the name of the lucky winner in the unbalanced glare of a too-bright floodlight. This was a black and white ABC network circa 1962 visual at its finest. Both Hanna and Barbera resembled a couple of longshoremen in white shirts who needed a shave. Never saw the moment other than the night ending the contest. It's doubtful that it was committed to two inch high band videotape or, if so, that such tape still exists.
Thank you for confirming that. I knew my mother wouldn't have lied about it, but I found it strange that I never saw this fact mentioned in any book or article I've seen about the Flintstones.
